House Cleaning Cost in Ottawa & Gatineau: 2026 Guide

Short answer: in Ottawa and Gatineau in 2026, a regular house clean usually costs $120 to $180 per visit for an average home, a deep clean runs $200 to $400, and a move-out clean lands between $150 and $650 depending on the size of the place. If a company quotes you by the hour instead, published rates across the region run from roughly $25 to $55 per cleaner, per hour, with the higher end usually coming from larger companies and the lower end from independent cleaners.

That is the quick version. Below you will find the price for each type of clean, what changes the number, what a cleaner can realistically get done in three hours, and how to compare quotes without getting caught by hidden extras. Most guides only cover Ottawa. Since we work on both sides of the river, we also cover what changes in Gatineau, including taxes.

CleanFix Pro Prices by Type of Clean (2026)

These are our own price ranges for the National Capital Region. All prices are before tax. Your exact quote depends on the size and condition of the home, but this is what to expect:

Type of clean Typical price Typical time
Regular home cleaning (weekly, biweekly or monthly) $120 – $180 per visit 2 – 4 hours (2,000 sq ft)
Deep home cleaning $200 – $400 4 – 8 hours (2,000 sq ft)
Move-in / move-out cleaning $150 – $650 by size 2 – 8 hours
Airbnb, VRBO and rental turnover $80 – $220+ by size 1.5 – 6 hours
Post-renovation cleaning $300 – $600 Varies with the job
For-sale (listing) cleaning $250 – $450 Varies with the home

Move-out pricing scales with the unit: a studio or one-bedroom starts at $150 to $220, a two-bedroom at $220 to $320, a three-bedroom house at $320 to $450, and a four-bedroom or larger house at $450 to $650. Our move-out cleaning guide walks through that in more detail, including deposits.

What a Regular Cleaning Costs per Month

Most people are not really asking “what does one visit cost?” They want to know what it will do to their monthly budget. Using the $120 to $180 per-visit range above, this is a rough monthly picture before tax:

Frequency Visits per month Approximate monthly cost
Weekly About 4.3 $520 – $780
Every two weeks About 2.2 $260 – $390
Once a month 1 $120 – $180

Many households settle on biweekly as the balance between a home that stays fresh and a bill they are comfortable with. Weekly makes sense if you have kids, pets or a busy household. Monthly works best as a reset for a home you already keep tidy.

Hourly Rate or Flat Rate: Which Is Better?

Both models exist in Ottawa, and neither is automatically cheaper.

  • Hourly pricing is common with larger companies and independent cleaners. Published rates we see across the region range from about $25 to $55 per cleaner per hour, and many have a 2 or 3-hour minimum. It looks cheap until the job takes longer than the estimate, because you pay for the extra time.
  • Flat-rate pricing fixes the number based on the size and condition of the home. You know the total before anyone arrives, which makes it easier to budget and to compare quotes.

The catch with hourly quotes is that the number of cleaners matters. A rate of $45 per cleaner per hour with two cleaners is $90 an hour, so always ask whether the price you are quoted is per person or for the whole team.

What Changes the Price

Two homes of the same size can cost very different amounts. These are the factors that move a quote:

  • Size of the home. Square footage and the number of bathrooms matter more than the number of bedrooms.
  • Condition. A home that is cleaned regularly is quick. One that has not been deep cleaned in a year takes longer, which is why a first visit sometimes costs more than the ones that follow.
  • Type of clean. A standard clean keeps things maintained. A deep clean adds detail work such as baseboards, inside the oven, grout and interior windows.
  • Frequency. Recurring clients are usually cheaper per visit than one-time bookings.
  • Extras. Inside the oven, inside the fridge, interior windows and laundry are common add-ons.
  • Pets and heavy use. Pet hair and high-traffic households add time.
  • Timing. The last days of the month and the weeks around Moving Day in Gatineau (July 1st) fill up fast, so booking early gets you a better choice of dates.

What Can a Cleaner Do in 3 Hours?

This is one of the most common questions, and the honest answer depends on how many cleaners come and how large the home is. As a guide, a regular clean of a home around 2,000 square feet takes two to four hours. In a three-hour visit, a team can typically cover:

  • Kitchen: counters, backsplash, sink, stovetop, the outside of appliances and floors.
  • Bathrooms: toilets, sinks, showers or tubs, mirrors and floors, all disinfected.
  • Bedrooms and living areas: dusting all reachable surfaces, vacuuming carpets and rugs, and mopping hard floors.
  • Finishing touches: door handles, light switches and trash removal.

What three hours will not usually cover is a deep clean. Baseboards, inside the oven, grout scrubbing and heavy build-up take longer, which is why deep cleaning is priced separately and runs closer to four to eight hours for the same size of home.

How Long Does It Take to Clean a 2,000 Sq Ft House?

Plan on 2 to 4 hours for a regular clean and 4 to 8 hours for a deep clean with a professional team. Doing it yourself usually takes longer, since you are working alone and stopping to fetch supplies. For a move-out clean, a thorough DIY job on a two-bedroom place commonly takes 6 to 10 hours, while a two-person team finishes in around 3 to 4.

Ottawa vs. Gatineau: What Changes?

The cleaning itself is the same on both sides of the river. What differs is the tax you pay on top:

  • Ottawa and the rest of Ontario: 13% HST.
  • Gatineau and the rest of Quebec: 5% GST plus 9.975% QST, which is 14.975% in total.

Our prices are shown before tax, and the tax is added on top. On a $150 clean that means about $19.50 in HST in Ottawa, or about $22.46 in GST and QST in Gatineau. On a recurring plan, that adds up over the year, so it is worth budgeting for. It is also worth asking any company you compare us with whether their quote includes tax, since some advertise prices with tax already in and some do not. Gatineau has one more local detail: language. If you would rather deal with a company in French, ask upfront. CleanFix Pro is bilingual in English and French.

We clean across central Ottawa, west Ottawa (Kanata, Barrhaven, Nepean), east Ottawa (Orléans) and Gatineau (Hull, Aylmer, Chelsea).

Is a Cleaning Service Worth It?

It comes down to what your time is worth and what else you would do with it. A regular clean of a 2,000 square foot home takes a professional team two to four hours. If you clean the same home yourself, it often takes longer once you count supplies, fetching equipment and putting everything away. If your free hours are limited, paying for a recurring clean can be cheaper than the lost weekend, and it also means the house stays consistently clean instead of being cleaned only when it gets bad.

It is not worth it for everyone. If you have the time, enjoy it, and the home is small, doing it yourself is perfectly reasonable. Many people use a hybrid: they keep up with daily tidying and book a professional deep clean every few months.

How to Compare Quotes (and Avoid Surprises)

The lowest number is not always the lowest price. Before you say yes to a cleaner, ask:

  1. Is the company insured, and are the cleaners background-checked? You are letting people into your home. At CleanFix Pro all staff are background-checked and insured.
  2. Are supplies and equipment included? Some quotes assume you provide the vacuum and products. We bring professional eco-friendly products and equipment, and can use yours if you prefer.
  3. Is the price per person or per team, and is there a minimum? This is where hourly quotes get confusing.
  4. What is included, exactly? Ask for the checklist. “Standard clean” means different things to different companies.
  5. What happens if something is missed? Look for a clear satisfaction guarantee. Ours is a 100% satisfaction guarantee.
  6. Does the quote include tax? Our prices are before tax. Some companies advertise tax-included prices, so make sure you are comparing like for like.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a cleaner cost per hour in Ottawa? Published rates in the region range from about $25 to $55 per cleaner per hour. Independent cleaners tend to be at the lower end and larger companies at the higher end. Flat-rate pricing, like ours, removes the guesswork by quoting a fixed price for the size of your home.

How much does a cleaning lady cost in Ottawa per month? For a regular clean at $120 to $180 per visit, expect roughly $520 to $780 a month for weekly service, $260 to $390 for every two weeks, and $120 to $180 for a single monthly visit, before tax. Tax is added on top: 13% HST in Ottawa, or 14.975% (GST plus QST) in Gatineau.

Is it cheaper to hire a cleaning company or an independent cleaner? Independent cleaners are often cheaper per hour, but a company usually includes insurance, background checks, supplies and a replacement if the cleaner is sick. If any of those matter to you, factor them into the comparison.

Do I need to be home during the cleaning? No. Many clients provide access with a key, a code or a lockbox. Just let us know how you would like to handle it when you book.

How often should I have my house cleaned? Every two weeks is the most common balance of cost and upkeep. Weekly suits busy households and pets, and monthly works if you keep the home tidy in between. A deep clean every three to six months keeps the detail work under control.
